The GE House offers several electives taken by students in all houses of the high school. One elective is its Environmental Architecture and Design course offered in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. In this Art course, students examine housing needs and choices, design basics, and career opportunities in the wide-ranging housing and interior design fields.
While practicing some design skills, students participated in a local contest. Bibi Alley (11th grade Global Commerce) and Devaney Jimenez (10th grade Fine Arts) were selected as winners of the 2008 holiday greeting card contest sponsored by 1st National Bank of Scotia. On December 11th, a presentation took place at Schenectady High School where each student received $250.00 worth of EE US savings bonds along with their original artwork framed. Other students who participated in the contest received a personalized certificate along with a $10.00 gift certificate- they included Kenya Finn, Alexis Hariprashad, Ashley Horton, Tabitha S. King, Anita Parbhudial, Cortney Phillips, Melissa Rusnica, and Anthony Samoroo.
